TO AID THE NEEDY

AN AUCKLAND APPEAL Canon Grant Cowen in yesterday’s issue makes a special appeal to Aucklanders for warm clothing with which to clothe the poor and destitute of this city. There are something like 50 or 60 families the Canon Cowen is endeavouring to assist. While there are many more who need coal. The bulk of these unfortunate people are unemployed, are living in Auckland in single rooms, and have only just enough to pay their rents. In many cases there are as many as six or seven of a family living in one tiny room and their prospects of getting work are very poor, with the result that they are faced with a harrowing winter. No clothes to keep them warm and no coal to make themselves fires with.
