MAN FROM MAMAKU £5 FINE AND RESTITUTION “He has no money and cannot do hard work,” said Chief-Detective Cummings in the Police Court this morning when Richard Wilfred Williams, aged 35, appeared, on remand, and pleaded guilty to stealing £S 10s from the Mamaku Sports Club, of which he was secretary. It was explained that Williams kept a billiard saloon at Mamaku and as secretary of the local sports club,received nomination fees. He left suddenly on March 17, and came to Auckland with £5 14s of the club’s funds in his possession. Other amounts received by post were re-addressed to him in Auckland. He forwarded £5 of these :o the club treasurer, but retained £ 216 s, which he converted to his own use.
Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., fined Williams £5 on the first charge and convicted and ordered him to come up for sentence within twelve months on the second, and also to make restitution of the £8 10s to the club.
