THE REGENT
“SORROWS OF SATAN” The Paramount-D. W. Griffith masterpiece, “Sorrows of Satan,” attracted another packed house to the New Regent Theatre last evening. Adapted from Marie Corelli’s most dramatic story of love and temptation and regeneration, it tells of a modern devil on earth and his influence over the interwoven lines of a struggling writer, a sweet young girl, and a Russian princess. Adolphe Menjou, always popular, has his greatest of all roles in the production and is supported by Carol Dempster, Lya de Putti and Ricardo Cortez. A splendid musical programme is played by the Operatic Orchestra, under the baton of Maurice Guttridge. Eddie Horton at the mighty Wurlitzer, plays “Berceuse” from “Jocelyn,” and request numbers, and Donald Stuart makes his final appearance in his hilarious mirth and mystery act.
