A SEA MYSTERY REMAINS UNSOLVED

LONG SEARCH FAILS TO FIND ANY TRACE OF BURNED LAUNCH (From O'ur Own Correspondent.) OPOTIKI, Thursday. Interviewed this morning, Constable Heaslip stated that there had been a continued search in connection with the reported burning of a launch off Paerata Ridge, near Opotiki. The beach had sbeen traversed from Ohiwa to Opotiki without result. The informant, Mr. S. Webb, a schoolmaster, is quite definite in his statement that he witnessed the launch burning from a high vantage point on Paerata Ridge. At the time of the fire the tide was on the ebb, so it may be assumed that the illfated vessel either drifted out to sea or went to the bottom. No local boat, nor any men are misisng.
