Kerikeri Settlement
ABSENCE OF FROSTS
Mr. G. E. Alderton, who has just ; returned from the Kerikeri Group Settlement. says that noth withstanding the heavy frosts prevailing in most j districts a week ago, there was no j sign of frost on the Kerikeri uplands, : where the new settlers have 35 acres 1 in early potatoes.* The crops are look- i ing well, and the potatoes will be ready in August. Messrs. A. A. Wright, i Frank Butler, Alec Riddell, Bishop and j Bedggood have each # a plantation well forward. When in Wellington recently, Mr. ’ Alderton arranged with a group of leading city men to take up sections at Kerikeri, and a block of eight 20-acre sections has been set aside for them, to be named the Wellington block. It -is intended to put the contractors to work on these as soon as the surveys are complete.
