PLANE CRASHES IN FLAMES
D’OISY SMASHED AT LE BOOGET
H FRENCH RIGHT TO INDIA FAILS
A PLIGHT, which promised to he part of an international attempt between French and British airmen to break Mr. Chamberlain’s non-stop record, has been robbed of its significance throngh the crashing at Le Bouget airdrome of the plane piloted by Captain L’Oisy and Lieutenant Gouin, just after they had started out. They escaped uninjured.
By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Reed. noon. PARIS, Tuesday. QAPTAIN D’OISY, the French airman, and his navigator, Lieut. Gouin, crashed at Le Bourget airdrome just after they had taken off on their flight to India in an attempt to lower the non-stop flight record. They both escaped with their lives. Their start was made under adverse weather conditions, because they were eager to ’be ahead of the English airmen, who were setting out on the same flight. hTe machine caught fire, b*it the airmen escaped from the blazing wreckage.
DOisy singed one hand slightly, and Gouin frantically gesticulated to an accompanying plane. The pilot, seeoing the airmen were safe, immediately returned to Le Bourget with tidings to the airmen’s wives, who were terrified spectators of the blazing machine. In the meanwhile scores of airplanes, cars and ambulances rushed to the scene and were overjoyed to find them alive.
The airmen regretfully left the debris of the machine and motored to Le Bourget, and from there to Paris. The meteorological bulletin was distinctly bad, but D’Oisy was overanxious to be - ahead of Flight-Lieuts. Carr and Mackworth, who are still waiting at Cranwell. Aviation circles are deeply dishppointed because so much was expected from the flight.—
BRITISH AIRMEN SEEK FLIGHT RECORD
JOURNEY TO INDIA START THIS WEEK By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyrigh' LONDON, Monday. Flight-Lieutenants Carr and Mack-,,-orth will, weather permitting, start
to-morrow on their attempt to make a non-stop flight to India. The airmen will use a HawkerHorsley bombing plane. They will carry their petrol supply in tanks and it will be sufficient for a flight of 4,500 miles.
This event seems likely to develop into an international flight, as Captain Doisv, the French airman, it to leave Le Bourget airdrome, Paris, to-mor-row for the same destination.
ROUND ENGLAND AIR FORCE FLIGHT TRAINING FOR BOMBERS RUGBY, Mouclay. In connection with the projected flight, round England by bom Ding machines of the Royal Air Force, which will begin to-morrow and continue for 48 hours, four bombing squadrons will be represented by eight machines each. In all there will be 64 pilots. Guns will'be carried, but not ammunition. The circular route to be covered is about 400 miles long. The test is designed to estimate the relative proficiency of the bombing squadrons, and to carry out their training in the most practical way.—A. and N.Z. ITALY’S AIR CHIEF DI PINEDO’S REWARD PROMOTED TO GENERAL ROME, Tuesday. It is understood that Commander the Marchese dl Pinedo, on his return from Barcelona, will be appointed to the rank ol general, and appointed Chief of Staff of the Italian Air Forces, in succession to Genera Armani.—A. and N.Z.
