AN EXTRA DAY’S RACING
For a considerable time the Taumarunui Racing Club has been endeavouring to obtain a permit to hold an extx*a day’s racing in the year. So far all requests have been unsuccessful, with the exception that a permit was “loaned” to the club for an additional day in 1923. Speaking at the Chamber of Commerce meeting at Taumarunui on Monday night, the tton. R. F. Bollard, Minister of Internal Affairs, intimated that he had two “floating” permits, and in view of the fact that the Taumarunui Club was not in a very flourishing condition, and wanted a second day’s meet*ug, it was possible they might get one of these “floating" permits next season. The statement was greeted with hearty satisfaction, and racing men in the district seem inclined to regard it as being equal to a ministerial promise.
