COAL IMPORTATION
FRENCH RESTRICTION BRITAIN’S PROTEST (British Official Wireless .) RUGBY, Monday. In the House of Commons, in reply to a question regarding the embargo on the importation of coal into France, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Department of Overseas Trade, Mr. A. M. Samuel, said a decree issued on May 25 prohibited the importation into France from June 1 of coal, coke, lignite and patent fuel, except under licence. A general licence had been issued for the importation of coal for cokemaking plants. ' The operation of the decree was subsequently postponed until June 10. . - The British Ambassador, the Marquess of Crewe, had made strong re- ■* pres€ntations against the measure and .» had specially urged that existing con- : tracts should be respected.—A. and 'J: z -
