FIJIAN RUGBY
TEAM FOR AUCKLAND VISIT IN AUGUST PLANNED RETURN FOR VARSITY TOUR \\7ORD was received in the city * * yesterday that a Fijian Rugby team contemplates making a visit to Auckland in August. The trip will be in return for the visit paid to the Islands by Auckland University footballers some months ago. In the meantime no definite arrangements can be made until the sanction of the Auckland Rugby Union has been obtained. It is expected, however, that the union will cordially approve of the project, as matches in which the Fijian team figures should be cardinal attractions.
If the proposals materialise the Fijian team, which will be composed largely of Australians and New Zealanders residing in the Islands, will be in New Zealand about three weeks. There should be time for three or four matches, including one to be played at Auckland, one at Hamilton, and one at Rotorua.
Mr. L. E. Brooker, a member of the Auckland University side which visited Fiji, said this morning that the Fiji footballers played a good standard of Rugby. He expected the team to come to New Zeaalnd would be as good as a first-class senior club team. The Auckland University team played three tests in Fiji, winning one and losing one, while a third was drawn.
