SCHOOL TEACHERS MAKE COMPLAINT
NO RIGHT OF APPEAL STRONG CASE PRESENTED Press Association. PALMERSTON NORTH, Sunday. The Manawatu branch of the Educational Institute placed the questions of the right of appeal against nonappointment, the paying of removal expenses when teachers are on transfer, reduction in the size of classes, and confidential reports exchanged between boards when teachers apply for a new position, before Messrs. J. A. Nash and J. Linklater, M.P.’s, yesterday. A strong case was presented by the institute and both members promised to support the petitions when education matters were being discussed in Parliament. Mr. Swinbourne, president, said the right of appeal was w'anted so that teachers could appeal against a lowergraded applicant being appointed before a higher-graded teacher. They considered the boards and inspectors departed too much from the grading list. They wanted the right to have cause shown why these appointments were passed over. Confidential reports which were of an adverse character should be tabled before the institute and the teacher allowed to give his version of the case.
