BIG TOWN HALL VENTURE YESTERDAY AND TO-DAY New Zealand at Work. On Wednesday the Town Hall will be the Mecca of every Aucklander. There they will see New Zealand at work, in a setting as beautiful as it is impressive. Under the auspices of the New Zea-land-made Preference League, an exhibition of New Zealand-made goods will be held for five days, and elaborate preparations have been made to ensure the success of an interesting, instructive and patriotic venture. Mr. G. Tarr. scenic artist to the Majestic Theatre, has carried out an elaborate scheme of decoration. Round the walls of the Town Flail, in scenes representing the grandeur and splendour of the Tongariro National Park, stands a Maori village, with wliares at regular intervals. Tongariro and Ruapehu tower to their splendid heights and native bush grows in all its verdant glory. On the stage there are a Maori storehouse and a carved pataka. “Yesterday” and: "To-day” will be enacted by groups of chosen performers. Under the direction of Mrs. W. Coldicutt, Mayoress of Onehnnga, and Kahupaka Tautahi, chieftainess of the Te Waiohua tribe, a troupe of Maori maids and warriors will enact
“Yesterday.” There will* be hakas and poi dances, and the Maoris will engage in mat weaving and other crafts which have been so beautifully done b> the native. This will represent the New Zealand industries of days gone by. Then, from the large storehouse, there will be a parade of mannequins, wearing over 100 fashionable frocks made in the Dominion. They will represent “To-day.” Mdlle. Valeska has arranged a series of scintillating ballets, in which the dancers will be attired in poster figures which are familiar to everyone. In addition there will be many other attractive features To-day a New Zealand-made shopping week was inaugurated throughout the city, and efforts are being made to induce everyone to purchase a New Zealand-made article. In this way the buying of Dominion-made goods will become a habit.
