THE STRAND
“THE MAN UPSTAIRS”
At the Strand Theatre this week a thrilling and hilarious screen production is being screened. It is “The Man Upstairs, the film version of the wellknown Earl Derr Biggers story, “The
Agony Column,” and introduces a delightful new screen team —Monte Blue and Dorothy Devore. The plot is generously punctuated with thrills and laughs and is so skillfully directed by Roy Del Ruth that it keeps the audience in breath--1 less suspense until the surprising climax.
“The Agony Column” in a daily newspaper brings together two young people in search of romance and adventure. To gratify the young lady’s thirst for excitement, the hero creates a mysterious murder which is ultimately attributed to him and for which he is sent to prison. It later develops that the girl had decided to play a joke on him and when she has tested his courage and wits promises to marry him to atone for her prank. The supporting cast is an excellent one and includes Heinie Conklin, John Roche, Helen Dunbar, Arthur Thalaso, Otto Hoffman, Carl Stockdale and Stanley Taylor. * From every angle “The Man Upstairs” is a picture well worth seeing.
