A STORY UPSET

MAN CUT OWN THROAT Press Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. The story told to a constable in Manners Street at 2.30 a.m. on June 3 was upset in court to-day, when Henry Newitt, a middle-aged man, pleaded guilty to attempting suicide. With his throat cut, Newitt told a constable that while he was sleeping off the effects of a drinking-bout on the Oriental Bay beach, someone attacked him, causing the injury. Senior-Sergeant Lander told the court that Newitt certainly had been drinking, but had cut his throat in a fit of depression. Accused was ordeerd to come up for sentence if called upon, and to pav costs.
