A ROTARIAN ABROAD
TOUR OF MR. C. RHODES CANADIAN IMPRESSIONS What it means to be a Rotariar. was indicated by Mr. Charles Rhodes, j acting-district governor of the Rotary j Club, at the Rotary luncheon to-day. In the course of a very interesting address on his trip through Canada. Mr. Rhodes stated that it was necessary Tor him to telegraph ahead to Toronto for medical treatment for Mr. Peter Barr, who had taken ill on the journey. When the train arrived at Toronto the president and vice-presi-dent of the Rotary Club were waiting for them at the station and took charge of all arrangements. The ladies of the party were also taken over by the wives of prominent Rotarians and during Mr. Barr’s forced stay in the city they received nothing by the utmost kindness at the hands of the Toronto club members. “That,” said Mr. Rhodes, “is the Rotary spirit.” In the course of a very interesting talk on Canadian industries Mr. Rhodes outlined his visit to the Bollinger gold mine, the Abitibi paper mills, and the mineral deposits at Cobault. The Hollinger gold mine, he explained, was six or seven times larger than the Waihi mine, and, in his opinion, employed the best engineering methods he had ever seen. The paper mills had also proved an interesting study. There they produced 700 tons of news-print daily, and it was railed away immediately it was finished, none being stored. An explanation of the engineering methods employed in the various mines visited also provided a very interesting and instructive subject. Following a very attentive hearing Mr. Rhodes was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks, carried by acclamation.
