COLT’S COME-BACK
AFTER GLAND TREATMENT WINS BIG RACE By Cable. — Press Association.—Copyright LONDON, Friday. The three-year-old racehorse Pentire, whose life was saved through a thyroid gland operation, won the Mark Price Handicap race at Manchester. Mr. A. R. Cox, the wealthy owner of the horse, thought Pentire was worthless, and condemned the animal to be shot.
The “Daily Express” says a veterinary surgeon begged that the colt should be spared for gland treatment, although it looked hopeless. The owner consented, and the colt, which was then undersized, developed so as to justify training. The horse, in the race at Manchester, accomplished an excellent performance under the second top weight.—A. and N.Z.
