Over the Tea Cups AT THE TUDOR TEAROOMS
Masses of vivid flowers contrasted admirably with the dark beauty of the furnishing's at Milne and Choyce’s popular tea rooms this morning when a number of charming parties 'were in progress. Among the hostesses we noticed: Mrs. Ashton, Mrs. A. N. Bestic, Mrs. Peter Buck, Mrs. Benjamin, Miss Hall, Miss Joyce Smith, Miss Kingswell and a number of others. Miss Joyce Smith gave a delightful party this morning in the Tudor rooms in farewell to a number of girl friends. Miss Smith leaves shortly with her mother, Mrs. C. Eugene Smith, of “Belvedere,” Hillside Crescent, Mt. Eden, for Sydney where they will make tlicir future home. The guests at Miss Smith’s party this morning included Miss Gwen Kingston, Miss Peggy Ford, Miss Betty Buddie, Miss Noel Gresham, Miss Lovelace Milne, Miss Shirley Medhurst, Miss Dorothy Didsbury, Miss Lois Mahon, Miss Meg Simpson, Miss Cecily Cox, Miss Ursula Cox, Miss Joan Northcroft, Miss Ilene Spence, Miss Valerie Peacocke, Miss Joan Hudson and Miss Louie Cummins. Miss Kingswell, of One Tree Hill, was the hostess this morning at a delightful tea party given in honour of Mrs. Ronald Patrick of Wanganui who is at present the guest of Mrs. Kingswell. The dainty table decorations lent an addde charm and struck a warm note of colour against the more subdued tonings of the frocks and suits worn by Miss Kingswell’s guests.
PAPATOETOE BOWLING CLUB’S ANNUAL BALL AND PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES
The members of the Papatoetoe Bowling and CroqUet Club and their friends made gay at the Town Hall, Papatoetoe, on Friday, June 10, the occasion' being their annual ball and the presentation of trophies won in the club competitions during the past year. There was a good attendance of dancers present in all, some 120 couples occupied the floor, and to the intriguing music of Walker’s Orchestra spent a most enjoyable evening. During the first half of the programme, the dancing was interspersed with musical items, which made a pleasant break, especially for the nondancers. The following contributed items: Miss R. Daisley, song; Miss E. Wood and Mr. J. Sandford, duet; Mr. J. Sandford, song; Mrs. R. G. Ross and Miss E. Wood acted as accompanists. A number of pleasing extras were supplied by Miss R. Burnside, and the duties of M’s.C. were efficiently carried out by Messrs R. McCullough, E. H. Burnside and P. Swaffield.
At the supper adjournment, the Bowling Club president, Mr. F. M. Waters, welcomed all present, and wished them a very pleasant evening, incidentally mentioning considerable improvements and additions to the green, and inviting any non-bowlers to become bowlers. He then called on Mrs. R. McCullough, president of the Croquet Club, to present the prizes won by the members during the season. The following were the recipients of prizes:—Mrs. Death, Mrs. Cutforth. Mrs. Smytheman, Mrs. Nicholson, Mrs. Taylor, Misses Thorne and Hart. Mr. Waters then presented the bowling club’s trophies as follows:—Championship, Mr. H. P. Andrew; cup and trophy, Morgan Cup, Mr. J. Franklin; handicap pairs, Messrs. Waters and J. Tidmarsh; percentage fours, Messrs. McAllum, Snelling, Bygrave and Wilson. Among those present we noticed: Mrs. T. R. Smytheman, wearing a gown of champagne satin, relieved with mauve.
