AUSTRALIAN PICTURES

FILM COMBINE SUGGESTED EXISTENCE DENIED By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright MELBOURNE, Friday. In giving evidence before the Film Commission Mr. Gibson, managing director of the Union Theatres, denied that there was any film combine st> far as they were concerned. They had never blocked an Australian picture. If they considered an Australian or a British film was one such as the people wanted they bought it. They had made two Australian pictures. These had never been shown and never would be shown, because they were not up to standard. To do any good for the British film industry it would be necessary to show from 30 to 50 per cent, of British films, and that quantity was not available. His company received no commission, directly or indirectly, from American firms.
