THE CAMELLIA

Those who admire stiff flowers for decorative work should find a place for the old-time camellia. Its beautiful, ever-green foliage makes a splendid shrub; and the fact that it flowers from May till November —the months when blooms are scarce—is much in its favour. The camellia will thrive in any position so long as there is good depth of soil and an annual attention with fertiliser. How long it will live is problematical; but the writer knows of two bushes that have been blooming for over 20 years. There are 40 different colours and shades catalogued—quite a wide enough range. It cam be planted out in any of the months when flowering is dormant, and should be i staked into an upright position in the ■ early stages to give it a handsome set- I ting.
