CLEAN-UP THE FRUIT TREES

Nothing is more important in the orchard just now than the treatment of the trees with lime. Under the bark scores of pests are sheltering, which a clean-up will wipe out of existence. Stone lime should be covered with water, and after it has “boiled” should be broken down till it resembles milk. Before applying add soap which has been dissolved in boiling water (this will cause the lime to stick when applied with the brush). If the work is done thoroughly there will not be so much trouble with pests next season. Stone fruit trees are leafless just now, and the lime will have a wholesome effect while the sap is down and treelife dormant.
