PADEREWSKI
FIRST N.Z. RECITAL At the Town Hall, Wellington, on Thursday night, Sir Ignace Paderewski, world-famous pianist, opened his New Zealand tour. A wonderful recital, so it is reported, was attended by a large and highly enthusiastic audience which, delighted with his wonderful playing, cheerd him again and again. The opening recital included selections from the compositions of Bach; Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin (one of Paderewski’s most favourite composers) and Liszt, while the master musician also played his own superb Legende in A Flat. In all his varied programmes Paderewski presents a wonderful selection of varied interest and unique attractiveness. At the opening recital Lady Alice Fergusson and suite attended, and the scene at the Wellington Town Hall was a memorable one.
Messr£. J. and N. Tait, through whose enterprise the master musician was induced to tour Australia and New Zealand, announce that owing to world-wide engagements Paderewski’s stay in the Dominion, must necessarily be brief. In all but eight recitals will be given—two in Wellington Town Hall/ June 9 and 11; two in Christchurch Theatre Royal, June 15 and 18; one in Dunedin, June 21, and three at Auckland, June 29, July 2 and 4. A splendid system of preferential booking has been arranged by the management. This will enable both city and country residents to ensure the reservation of the seats they desire.
