Railway Smash Inquiry Ended
STONES TRACK POLICE INVESTIGATING
(Special to THE SUN .) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday
Members of the board of inquiry which investigated the overturning of the locomotive at Timaru completed their inquiries at Christchurch this morning.
Mr. C. M. Benzoni, district engineer, Dunedin (chairman) informed a “Sun" man that any conclusions would have to be announced by the Railway Board. lie was responsible for the report made in Timaru that stones had been found on the line, for he thought it right that the public should know that. However, he was not prepared to say if that was the only evidence heard that might be the cause of the accident.
From another source it is learned that the police are investigating the presence of stones on the track, it being clear that the stones had been put there deliberately."
