GETTING ROUND IT?

POINT CHEVALIER BEACH THE BATHS QUESTION The question as to whether or not Dixieland Cabaret is to be allowed to build baths on the Point Chevalier beach did not come before the City Council again last evening directly, but there were one or two items on the order paper that might, and might .not, affect the position. One was in a report from the Parks Superintendent, to the effect that a considerable amount of work had been done in cleaning up the park area, and that a lot of ploughing had been done. Incidentally he remarked that but for the section of land occupied by Dixieland, the 11 acres being cleared would connect with Point Chevalier Park, and that the area commanded an excellent view of the Waitemata foreshore. The other mention was in a report from the city engineer, who pointed out that the superintendent had raised the question as to whether the foreshore at Point Chevalier should not be vested in the council, in view of the fact that the council owned a property abutting on a large length of the beach, and was developing this area as a park. The council decided to apply to the Minister to have the beach and the foreshore in the front of the Point Chevalier Domain, vested in the council.
