Work and “Swot”

STUDY CANNOT BE RUSHED PROFESSIONAL WARNING (From Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. 'J'HE Professorial Board at Victorii College strikes a significant note concerning those who work by day and “swot” by night. In its annual report the board welcomes the tendency towards day classes, and says that in the case of .science subjects it is essential, if a student is to have anything but a smattering, that he should devote hi* full time to the theoretical and practical study, and, from a cultural point of view, it is highly desirable that a student should have time for general reading and reflection. It is to be hoped that a greater proportion of students will come not merely for the sake of the bread tad butter degree, but with a desire to nn derstand more fully the laws of nature and to take part in extending the boon daries of human knowledge.
