“HUIA CLUB”
AT PAPAKURA A very successful entertainment was given under the auspices of the Papakura Girls’ Huia Club on Tuesday evening in the Parish Hall, the principal feature of which was a short comedy play entitled “The Kleptomaniac,” staged by members of the club. The play was produced and stagemanaged by Mrs. G. W. O’Connell, who, along with the girls, is to be heartily congratulated on such a splendid performanceThe following were specially thanked for their assistance, the Rev. W. C. Wood, Messrs. Cosgrave, Roach, T. and F. Walker, and P. Hardman. The first half of the programme was contributed by Mrs. Mcßae, Mrs. W. Mcllraith, Miss Ethel Turner, Messrs. C. S. Eeechey, J. O’Neill, L. Kernot and F. Walker. Mr. Hardman as accompanist was excellent. The characters in “The Kleptomaniac” were taken by the following young ladies: —Mrs. John Burton (Peggy), Miss Mavis Clarke; Mrs. Valerie Chase Armsby (a young widow), Miss Ida Searle; Mrs. Charles Dover (Mabee, a bride). Miss Mavis O’Neill: Mrs. Preston Ashley (Bertha), Miss Mildred Francis; Miss Freda Dixon, Miss Claire Wood; Miss Evans (reporter), Miss Myrtle Henwood; Katie (Mrs. Burton’s maid), Miss Kathleen Muir.
