TAURANGA HARBOUR DUES
There has lately been a good deal of discontent among the farmers of the Bay of Plenty in connection with the dues charged by the Tauranga Harbour Board. Delegates from various branches waited upon the board on Thursday and presented the followingresolution:— “This meeting advocates the abolition of harbour dues on all fertilisers, and a reduction, at least, of 50 per cent, on farm produce exported. Mr. T. Lockhead acted as spokesman. The chairman replied to the deputation, and contended that the dues were light as compared with other boards, and that it was a wise policy to create a reserve fund. The board decided to hold the matter over until next meeting, notice of motion being required to alter the tariff of charges.
