HOTHOUSE GRAPES SCARCE FEWER ROOTS OFFERING For most varieties of fruit the demand is dull compared with that ruling a month .ago. Cooking pears and apples, in short supply, are in good demand, and selling at higher values. Most varieties of sub-tropical fruit are well supplied, and selling at late quotations. Repacked bananas are considerably dearer than last week. Fresh supplies are due to arrive ex the Tofua from Sydney early next week. The Sydney produce boat, due at Auckland on Thursday next. will bring a further consignment of oranges, mandarins, and pines, ex the Sydney markets. Regular shipments from that quarter can be expected for the next few months. Hothouse grapes are almost finished, and the market is being supplied with the Australian white variety, ex cooler, which are meeting with only a limited demand, and selling at under 9d a lb. Cabbages, cauliflowers, onions, and pumpkins are well supplied in the field and produce sections, but are mostly meeting with a steady demand. Fewer root varieties are offering, though the market is still glutted with onions. A heavy offering of poultry sold at prices practically on a par with late quotations. Tomatoes, hothouse, f*d to Is a lb; seconds, 5d to Sd; choice outdoor. 12s to 16s a box; others, 3s to a box. Passions, local, 4s Gd to 10s Gd a case; Sydney, 12s to 16s a case. Grapes, hothouse, 2s to 3s a lb; Sydney, white, 16s a case. Bananas, ripe, 25s 1o 2Ss a case.
