RURAL CREDITS
VALUE OF THE BONDS WHO GIVES SECURITY? (Special to THE SUN. ) WANGANUI, Wednesday. An important question was raised at the Wanganui Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union to-day by Mr. -V. Robinson, who pointed out that on two occasions it had been denied that rural credit bonds had Government backing, while Mr. W. J. Poison, president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, maintained that the Government was behind the scheme. He contended that a delinite statement should be made. If the bonds were backed by the Government investors would much more readily subscribe. Mr. Morrison said he believed the Government was behind the bonds, but was averse to admitting it. Mr. Robinson contended the Government was only trying to throw dust in tiie eyes of the farming community, and the sooner it was forced to give a decision the better. It was decided to ask the Crown Law OtHce for information.
