DISTRESS PREVALENT SALVATION ARMY RELIEF r pHAT during the month of May 500 families in Auckland had to be assisted with food is the serious position disclosed by Major Annie Gordon, of the Salvation Army. In addition to orders upon butchers and grocers for the supply of food for 500 families, 200 bags of coal, 199 parcels of clothing, and 50 pairs of blankets have been issued by the Army authorities. Bedding and furnishings have also had to be supplied. It is stated that the trying months of the winter, as far as relief is concerned, ere still to come. To meet this, an appeal for assistance is now being made.
