SMALL FIRES

MINOR DAMAGE DONE A call was received by the City Fire Brigade at 4.57 p.m. yesterday, when a fire broke out on a city ti amway bus in a garage at the junction of Great South Road and St. Mark’s Road. The fire, which was caused by the engine back-firing, was extinguished by means of chemicals. One front tyre was badly ournt, but no other damage was done. A chimney fire at 2 Franklin Road resulted in a call to the brigade at 6.51 p.m. The outbreak was suppressed by one man, using a chemical extinguisher. The owner, Mrs. Smith, is at present in Sydney, the house, a two-storey building of 12 rooms, being occupied by Mrs. Edgar. The furniture is insured for £3OO with the Guardian Trust.
