Milkman's Narrow Escape. —A milkman named Basil Smith, while fording the flooded Kaqerau River, with his horse and cart, was swept away by the force of the stream. The horse was drowned, and the cart and contents lost, but the man was rescued by Mr. J. Doherty, who went to his assistance in a canoe.
