PLUCKY RESCUE

CHILDREN IN STREAM Press Association. PALMERSTON NORTH, To-day. While playing on the bank of the Mangaone Stream yesterday, two children named Te Rangi, aged three and a-half and six years respectively, fell into the flooded stream. The cries of two other children brought rescuers. Jane Te Rangi, aged 14, was unable to swim, but she jumped in the water and was clasped by the elder of the two children, who had hold of the youngest, the rescuer getting to the bank, which she clutched hold of, at the same time supporting the other children until all were rescued in an exhausted condition. The plucky action of Jane Te Rangi averted a drowning tragedy. The youngest child was in a very serious state when rescued, but after treatment at a neighbour’s home she revived.
