MOVEMENTS OF SHIPS

AUCKLAND AND ONEHUNGA DECREASE IN MAY Three British warships, two Royal Mail steamers, 20 large cargo vessels, 11 intercolonial or island vessels, together with 549 local coastal vessels, arrived in the Auckland Harbour during the month of May. This made a total of 61S vesels of 333,958 gross tons and 200,407 net tons. As compared with the corresponding period for last year the large merchant shipping show* a decrease of one vessel olf 39,526 gross tons and 24,059 net tons The local coastal vessels’ return shows a decrease of 18 vessels, of 18,351 gross tons and 5,145 net tons. The departures consisted of four British warships, two Royal Mail steamers, 2(5 oversea vessels, 11 intercolonial or island traders, 35 coastal vessels, together with 548 local coastal vessels, making a grand total of 620 vessels of 355,959 gross tons and 215,813 r et tons. The arrivals at Onehunga consisted of 24 \ essels, with an aggregate of 13,577 gross tons and 6,055 net tons. Compared with last year, this shows a decreast of four vessels, 1,215 gross tons an l 661 net tons. The departures consisted of 25 'essels. with an aggregate of 14,65-1 Svoss tens and 6,515 net tons.
