HAMILTON HOTELS
..RENEWAL OF LICENCES ONE CASE ADJOURNED (From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Tuesday. The annual meeting of the Hamilton Licensing Committee was held to-day, Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., presiding. Applications for the renewal of publican’s licences for the Hamlton, Commercial, and Royal Hotels were granted, and a similar licence in respect of the Frankton Junction Hotel was approved. Opposition was made by the police to the application by Albert Edmund Blackwell for the renewal of a publican’s licence for the Waikato Hotel. “There is a very bad report in this case," commented Mr. Wilson, and he cited its contents, which alleged illegal trading after hours in spite of the fact that the licencee had been previously fined for offences and repeteadly warned. Allegations were also made of incivility to the police by the licencee’s wife while they were carrying out inquiries. It was stated that the existing lease would expire in September, and it was understood that it was the intention of the owner, Mr. H. Burch, to take over the management of the premises then. He was absent in Australia, while Mr. W. King, who was to have appeared for the licensee, was engaged in the Supreme Court. It was decided to adjourn the application, and the annual meeting, until July 6.
