TE AWAMUTU BOROUGH
The mayor was indisposed, and Cr. Spinley presided at the meeting of the Te Awamutu Borough Council on Monday evening. The chairman, in referring to the report of the Finance Committee, regarding the amount of rates requiring to be struck for the current year, stated that it was at first proposed to strike a Jd rate, and then it was reduced to 7-16 d, but on further aonsideration it was found necessary to strike the id rate. This was the Finance Committee’s recommendation to the council. The secretary of the Waikato Hospital Board stated that the first instalment of the levy for 1927-28, amounting to £122 8s 6d, would fall due on June 15, and interest would be charged on any instalment remaining unpaid after the expiry of 14 days after amount became due. Superintendent Craig, Hamilton, and Mr. S. Clark, Te Awamutu, who had been appointed to make a valuation of the fire brigade property proposed to be taken over by the new fire board from the borough council, forwarded their report, giving a detailed list, aggregating £1,684 17s 6d. The proposed rates to be struck for the current year were discussed at some length. The estimated revenue totaled £4,034. The general rate would produce £2,061, as against just over £2,000 last year, a Jd increase on the rate would bring in £289 more. The present aggregate of rates would total BJd in the £. The estimates were adopted.
