SERVANT SNATCHING
Servant snatching in various forms has become a recognised branch of the ever-present servant problem, and the experience which befell a friend of mine this week suggests the “snatchers” have discovered yet another new method. At Remuera the people concerned are leaving their present residence, which, is now being “viewed” by prospective tenants. A lady called one afternoon during my friend’s absence, to view the premises, and was shown over by the little maid. The most interesting part of her looking over the place was summed up in a remark to the maid: “If I decide to take this house will you stay with me?” Apparently this method of obtaining a servant is becoming increasingly frequent, for a house agent says that he has several recent instances of people “taking” the old tenant’s maid when renting a house or flat.
