JUVENILE OFFENCES
ADVICE FROM MAGISTRATE CO-OPERATION NEEDED ( From. Our Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, To-day. Juvenile Court is a reformative one and not punitive, and parents should cooperate with it with a view to giving children appearing before it a chance to reform.” Such were the words of Mr. F. AV. Platts, S.M., at Waihi this morning, when two boys were charged with breaking gas meters, the property of the borough council, and stealing money to the amount of 23s therefrom, The police stated that since February 21 gas meters load been broken into and between £3O and £4O stolen therefrom. The magistrate adjourned the cases until next court day to enable the child welfare officer, the Rev. J. x>. McFarlane, to make inquiries. The magistrate commented on the serious nature of the charges, as they involved breaking and entering, which was quite an different matter to the usual boyish pranks that sometimes caused boys to appear before the court.
