SCHOONER CORONATION STRIKES MOTU-TARA

TWICE BEACHED LITTLE DAMAGE During her trip from Auckland to Awanui the auxiliary schooner Coronation struck Motu-Tara shoal while entering Awanui Channel last Sunday evening. The weather at the time was very hazy. As the vessel started to let in water the master decided to beach the schooner and he ran her ashore inside Mututi on a sandy bank. Repairs were effected and the vessel proceeded to Awanui. As the vessel was in no further danger it was decided that she should load timber at VVhangaroa. Whangaroa was left last Tuesday at 5 p.m., but early next morning the Coronation ran into a heavy head sea and she commenced to leak again. The master then decided to beach the vessel and ran for Marsden Point, where he beached her on a bank. After repairs were carried out the Coronation left at 7 a.m. yesterday and arrived here last night. The Coronation appeal's to be damaged between the cut-water and the false keel on her fore-foot and she is to be slipped to-morrow morning to have permanent repairs carried out.
