DEATH OF MR. M. NOLAN

Another link with early Auckland has been broken by the death of Mr. Martin Nolan, aged 83 years, at the Auckland Hospital. The late Mr. Nolan’s father, John Nolan, arrived in Auckland immediately after Captain Hobson, and purchased a section in what is now Lower Queen Street. This property remained in the Nolan family until only a few years ago. Mr. Martin Nolan was born In Auckland in 1844, and it was after the family had taken up farming at Papakura that he saw service in the Waikato war with the Forest Rangers He was one of the four brothers win pegged out “Nolan’s Candlelight' claim on the ridge between Waiotahi and Karaka Creeks, when the Thames goldfield was opened in 1867. During the last few years of his life Mr. Nolan was an invalid. His aged sister. Mrs \ sidy, still lives at Baildon Rond rev Lynn.
