LIBERAL RESPONSE
The popularity of the Auckland Trotting Club’s Winter Meeting with owners and trainers is amply demonstrated by the liberal support accorded the 14 events on the June card, which is reflected in the excellent nominations received. A total of 474 entries is recorded, being made up as follows in the various handicaps: Mangere, 46; Winter, 33; Campbell, 33; Stewards’ 17; Marconi, 52; Cornwall, 23; Manukau, 48; Royal, 36; Prince of Wales, 24; Adams Memorial Cup, 36; Members’, 16; Liverpool, 57; Au Revoir, 28. A glance at the list published in THE SUN yesterday shows that quality as well as quantity is well represented, and despite the fact that Great Bingen, Prince Pointer, Acron, the crackajack trio, are not engaged, the fields include the cream of the Dominion’s handicap speed merchants. With pacers of the calibre of Imprint, Cardinal Logan, Jewel Pointer, Holly Boy, Countryman, Peter Bingen, Sea Pearl, Terence Dillon, Nelson Fame, Harold Thorpe, Nantwich, Final McKinney, Audacious, and the Australian champion Western King, and such high-grade trotters as Peterwah, Napland, Elzear, Trampfast, Great Bell, and others, it will be readily admitetd that there is no scarcity of real good ones. The handicapper, Mr. Geo. Paul, who is a most capable and conscientious official, can be depended upon to bring the contestants into line in such a manner that will ensure a heavy acceptance card on June 10, and a record meeting on June 18 and 22.
