DIPHTHERIA ABOUT

MILD CASES NOTIFIED OUTBREAK AT PAPATOETOE UEVEN mild cases of diphtheria have been reported during the week to the District Health Office. Five cases have been reported from Papatoetoe, three of the patients being children of school age. Investigations showed that the outbreak was due to one mild case which had not been recognised, a child being kept from school with a sore throat which the parents did not think of sufficient consequence to have examined. Two other mild cases have been notified from Papakura. Mumps is very prevalent throughout the province. Not being notifiable, its extent cannot be exactly estimated. However, it has not become of sufficient importance to be brought to the notice of the Education Board.
