DIVISIONAL RACING

Judging by the abnormal nominations and acceptances received of late by Trotting Clubs in various portions of the Dominion, it is quite evident that attention will require to be given to the question of running some of the events in heats. This is done in many instances by racing clubs and works very satisfactorily from all points of view. The main objective, of course, is to do away with the menace to life and limb, and with the increasingly large fields taking part in the light harness sport, there is always the danger of a grave accident. For one event alone on the second day of the Canterbury Park meeting, sixty entries were received, a record surely, and allowing for a good percentage of entrants to forfeit their engagement, the field must still be too unwieldy and will present difficulties that can only be overcome by adopting the divisional policy.
