FOR BEAUTIFYING THE NORTH SHORE

BAYSWATER SOCIETY A meeting of the newly-formed Beautifying Society in Bayswater was held last evening in the clubhouse, Bayswater. There was an exceptionally large attendance of residents. Mr. O. Moller, president of the Belmont and Bayswater Progressive Association, occupied the chair. In a few well-chosen words the chairman pointed out the urgent need for such a society as this. The workers were there, and it only wanted the co-operation of the Takapuna Council to the suggestions put forward by the society to effect some wonderful changes in the borough. At the close of his address, the chairman extended a warm welcome to the Mayor of Takapuna, Mr. J. B. Williams. Mr. Williams, who was one of the original members of the Wanganui Association, showed some very interesting slides of the work done in Wanganui by that association. Mr. Davis also outlined the present scheme for beautifying Belmont and Bayswater, which included the putting into order of all footpaths, the planting of all waste spaces, the acquisition of a park and children’s playground. It is proposed to do the work by voluntary labour. They hoped also to secure the co-operation of the council. Later in the evening the mayor, councillors and Parks Committee were entertained at supper by the society.
