HOLIDAY TROTTING AT ADDINGTON

BIG FIELDS PROMISED KEEN RACING ASSURED PROSPECTS DISCUSSED (.Special to THE SUX .) CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. The winter fixture of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club will complete the series of light harness functions held at Addington this season. Early in the week the climatic conditions were unfavourable, but yesterday the morning bore evidence of a lull'd frost, with clear skies.

The weather continues to be fine, and the course promises to be in fair order. UNHOPPLED DIVISION The first event, the Yaldliurst Handicap, will start at 11 a.m., when numerous unhoppled trotters will try conclusions over twelve furlongs. Corwar is a smart beginner and may take a lot of catching. Elusive threatens to pick up a stake shortly, and on Oamaru form Nourmahal must be taken into consideration, but in all probability the winner will come from among the back markers, best of which appear to bo Tamerlane, Katute and Bridget Galindo. A BIG FIELD No fewer than 25 candidates promise to take part in the Peninsula Handicap. A reliable horse like Desert Star should make it inconvenient for the others to get the money. Auditress is a swift filly, and Conara can go fast and can stay. If Ariki learns to gather his speed quickly he will be among the hardest Desert Star and Auditress has to beat. THE CHIEF EVENT In the big race for the King George Handicap, ten representatives are scheduled to traverse two miles in 4.31 or faster. The stake is 600sovs. If the track is in good shape, Escapade, Queen’s Own and Logan Chief will give a lot of cheek on the journey. Neither of the front markers, Golden Devon and Downcast, are too clever at the end of a two-mile contest, but if the course happens to be holding they would have a big chance. Talent will be at home under any conditions, and so will Waitaki Girl. Trenand is too unlucky to prevail, but Cardinal Logan cannot be ignored. The outsider of the party, if the track is dry, will be Man o’ War. but should it be heavy, he will have plenty of followers. The issue is decidedly open, but at the finish one may expect Talent, Logan Chief, Queen's Own and Waitaki Girl to be handy. A SOLID TEST Genuine stayers are not too plentiful, and though 27 have been accepted for in the Lyttelton Handicap, more than half of them will wish that they had

remained at home before three parts of the journey is completed. Marlindo looks a stayer and so does Free Lance and Spring Chimes. The Northerner, Our Pirate, is a fair sort, but if Wenlo would repeat his track form he would be very hard to beat. Then there is Genuine. Summed up. Free Lance, Spring Chimes and Our Pirate may go as well as any. In the Aviation Handicap, Bridget Galindo should be prominent all the way. Guy Parrish may not have done sufficient work to see out the twomile journey, in which case Beal the Great should have a say in the decision. Among the back markers. Rose Bingen and Moneyspider appeal most and may dispute favouritism with Bridget Gal i ndo. Grey Logan will have plenty of friends in the Stewards’ Handicap and on recent form he should pay a dividend. Macaranda and Author Jinks may be well fancied also. AMONG THE MILERS In the Railway Handicap, Lochree and Lulu Lad are popular fancies, and for the Au Revoir Handicap Final MeK nney, Harold Thorpe and Author Jinks should carry the majority of the investments.
