DICK IS PARTICULAR
There are some courses upon which Dick absolutely refuses to do his best. Riccarton is one; he once had a nasty fall there, and he won’t jump that particular fence at all. He has no very great fancy for his Trentham track, nor for Wanganui, but he condescended to win once at Hawera. As for Ellerslie, he just loves it. Four years ago he ran second in the Great Northern Steeplechase, and this was the commencement of a rather remarkable sequence in this contest. The next season he was third, and then twelve months later he finished second. His next start, last year, saw him win gamely, so that in the last four years he has never been out of a place. Dick is in the Great Northern Steeplechase on Saturday, but it is surely asking too much of the little fellow to win or even to run into a place. At anyrate, something is expected of him, even if it be to make a name for himself other than being returned as the winner.
