NEWMARKET’S PROBLEM
BROADWAY BOTTLE-NECK A NEW PROPOSAL Two schemes to relieve the traffic congestion in Broadway, Newmarket, have now been proposed. The second was submitted to the Newmarket Borough Council by the mayor, Mr. S. Donaldson, last night. Tlis proposal is in effect to provide an outlet for traffic from both Remuera and Manukau Roads before reaching Broadway. To do this he proposes to cut a road through from Remuera Road, a short distance below the railway Bridge to Morrow Street, thence past the power house in Crowhurst Street, across Khyber Pass Road into Union Street, which would be widened and connected to Carlton Gore Road Access to the city would thus be provided by way of either Park Road or through Parnell. The mayor desires his scheme to be placed before the Streets Committee along with the previous proposal, and the two judged on their merits. It was also suggested that Great South vVirl traffic should be diverted at Mo!-W*Xk Pass, into (Tillies Avenue, and connected up with Crowhurst and Union Streets.
