ZIMBALIST
farewell concert To-morrow evening at 8.15 Zimbalist, the world-famous violinist, will give his farewell concert in the Town Hall. In view of the enthusiasm aroused by Zimbalist’s playing at his recent concerts here it would seem safe to predict that there will be very few vacant chairs in the Town Hall tomorrow night, when the master will take his leave of Dominion musiclovers. A specially attractive programme has been selected, including the great Glazounov Concerto in A Minor. Glazounov, who recently celebrated his 60th birthday, is a man of extraordinary musical talent, and has composed several fine orchestral works, unfortunately stil unknown outside Russia. “Many people ask for information about you,” wrote Tscliaikowsky to him in 1889 from Berlin. “They know that you are still very young, but are amazed when I tell them that you wrote your E Flat Symphony at fifteen. I am a great admirer of your gifts, and I value the earnestness of your aims and your artistic sense of honour.” Glazounov’s violin concerto was published in 1905 and dedicated to Professor Leopold Auer. It has been played in America and most of the European capitals by Mr. Zimbalist, and is now regarded as one of the greatest works written for the violin. Minor works to be performed at Friday’s concert will include compositions by Bach, Couperin, Rameau, Gossec and Mr. Zimbalist himself. Box plans are at Lewis R. Eady and Son, Ltd., and day sales at His Majesty’s Theatre confectionery stall, i
