BIG BROADCAST TO ATTRACT TOURISTS
RELAYED THROUGH AUSTRALIA biggest broadcasting experimade this evening. The attractions of New Zealand as a tourist resort should reach the ears of many thousands of overseas people through the effort. Arrangements have been made to uoadcast addresses by representative men from IYA, and if. the reception ox f°°?’ Australian stations, especialy uLO - Melbourne, will relay them. It is possible that the messages will be sent to America and England. r ' J- Keys will give an address on the tourist attractions and speeches will be given by Messrs H. 1 . Caughey, vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce, W. J. Holdsworth, chairman of the Auckland Power Board, by consuls including Mr ST* , F - *Boyle (U.S.A.), by Mr. G. F. Finlay and others. The Australian Press is said to be taking a keen interest in the broadcasting, and all Press Associations have been told of the proposal. This is the first time that arrangements have been made for a relay on a big scale. GOVERNMENT SUPPORT The Government has backed the spreading of the propaganda, by which it is expected that New Zealand will receive a fine advertisement in overseas countries. Mr. Coates has sent a message to the honorary organiser of the Community Tourist Committee, Mr. E. Austin, and chambers of commerce have also expressed their best wishes in telegrams. The president of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce, Mr. John Coull, the ])resident of the Dunedin Chamber, Mr. H. C. Campbell, ’Sir George Fenwick and Sir Harold Beauchamp all sent telegrams to-day.
