The situation is virtually a race for Peking between Marshal Chiang Kai Shek with the Communist army from Hankow, and Feng Yuh Siang. In the event of further Southern successes, Ch«aiig Tso Lin .announces that he is prepared to retire to Mukden.

Anticipating possible disturbances in Northern China, President Coolidge proposes to transfer the United States Legation from Peking to some point nearer the coast. —A. and N.Z.
