VARIOUS OFFENCES SPEEDERS FINED ‘Tt was a disgraceful piece of driving,” said Mr. P. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court this morning, -when Joseph Thomas Crowley, of Edendale, was charged with dangerous driving. It was stated by the traffic that Crowley drove a motor-bus down the Manukau Road at between 35 and 40 miles an hour. He then attempted to pass a motor lorry travelling in the same direction, and on applying the brakes skidded 47 yards. Had it not been for the wheels of the bus striking the kerb he would have collided with a telegraph post. Crowley was fined £2 and costs. Dangerous driving cost B. Harris, D. Peterson and D. Spence £ 1 each, James K. Mclndoe and S. Bryce £2, and F. C. Mappin and A. Smith £3. For leaving cars unattended the following fines were inflicted:—W. Anderson 10s, Harold Hayes £l, Albert Sinton 10s, Wong Kay 10s. Failing to obey traffic signal cost James Cassidy £l, Ethel Vaile 10s and Alice Maud Airey £l. Albert Perry and E. W. Alison were fined £2 each for leaving cars in the Domain. BY-LAWS BROKEN Neglect in respect to change of ownership of a car brought £1 penalties tvith costs to George F. Allen, Maurice J. Dobbing and John Ross. Having unlicensed motor-cars cost W. J. Bunting £1 3s, in addition to another £1 6s for leaving his car unattended; Charles Holemby 16s, and another £1 6s for lack of lights; Isaac Wootton £1 6s and £1 Is for having no driver’s licence. The latter offence caused Wong Kee to be fined 10s and costs, with another 30s and 16s costs for being without a hawker’s licence. Edwin Calder “permitted a vehicle to loiter,” and failed to produce his licence. He is now £2 19s poorer. Henry T. Parry and Charles C. White were both found without properly assigned number-plates affixed, and in consequence the former was fined 10s and costs 16s, and the latter convicted and ordered to pay another 16s for the privilege of appearing at court. Robert B. Holley’s penalty for leaving his car unattended amounted to £1 6s. Insufficient lights on the cars of Edward Painton and Leslie Ure brought their respective owners each a 10s fine with 16s costs.
