BREAK WITH RUSSIA
NO EFFECT ON TRADE MOTOR MAGNATE’S VIEWS (.From Our Resident Correspondent .) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. A question asked of Mr. H. Spurrier, a visiting British motor magnate, was, “Is a break with the Soviet likely to affect British trade?” IYTR. Spurrier, who comes with first-hand knowledge of trade conditions at Home, did not think so. Russia found us too good a customer to risk a break in actual trade relations if that were avoidable. His firm had recently executed an order for 250 buses delivered to Moscow’ and paid for by the purchasers. A contract with Russia was always promptly and satisfactorily executed.
The disturbances in China had affected the British motor trade somewhat, particularly heavy vehicles; but this was coming back now, six buses recently being delivered to Hongkong.
